Alenia North America has delivered the tenth of 20 C-27/G-222 transport aircraft to the Afghan Air Force (AAF) for deployment to Kabul to conduct mission operations.

The C-27/G-222 provides airlift transport capability to the AAF.

Alenia North America chief executive officer John H Young Jr said the C-27/G-222 was perfectly suited to the needs of the AAF as they work to build their forces.

The AAF is receiving the aircraft under the C-27/G-222 programme, which is considered the backbone of Afganistan’s reconstituted air force.

Under the C-27/G-222 AAF programme, Alenia North America provides programme management and management of logistics support.

The aircraft are being refurbished and modernised by Alenia North America parent company Alenia Aeronautica in its Capodichino facility near Naples, Italy.
