Thales has validated the production model AESA RBE2 radar with active electronically scanned array antenna on the French Air Force twin-engined delta-wing multirole jet fighter aircraft, Rafale.
The AESA RBE2 will give the omnirole combat aircraft extended range for compatibility with the latest-generation long-range missiles and the ability to detect low-signature targets.
It will give higher module reliability for reduced cost of ownership for the Rafale, in addition to providing extended waveform agility, which will make it possible to acquire submetric synthetic aperture (SAR) imagery while increasing the radar’s resistance to jamming.
Dassault Aviation has confirmed that the radar’s performance complies with the specifications of the defence procurement agency (DGA) “Roadmap” contract.
Thales proposes to begin series production of the equipment for installation on the aircraft under tranche 4 of the Rafale programme, and will be delivered by Dassault Aviation to the French Air Force from 2013.
