India’s Ministry of Defence has issued a letter of request to the US for the procurement of Boeing C-17 Globemaster-III aircraft for the Indian Air Force.
The ministry is planning to acquire the aircraft through the US’s Foreign Military Sales programme.

The decision to procure the aircraft followed a technology scan carried out as per India’s Defence Procurement Procedure 2008.
It indicated that the C-17 Globemaster-III aircraft best meets Indian Air Force heavy transport operational requirements.
