The top five companies accounted for 27% of patenting activity
Analysis of patenting activity by companies shows that Thales filed the most cybersecurity patents within the aerospace, defence & security industry in Q1 2024. The company filed 11 cybersecurity-related patents in the quarter, compared with 12 in the previous quarter. It was followed by Agency For Defense Development with 10 cybersecurity patent filings, RTX (8 filings), and Electricite de France (7 filings) in Q1 2024.
Patenting activity was driven by the US with a 29% share of total patent filings
The largest share of cybersecurity related patent filings in the aerospace, defence & security industry in Q1 2024 was in the US with 29%, followed by China (8%) and France (8%). The share represented by the US was 12% lower than the 41% share it accounted for in Q4 2023.
