The global aerospace, defence & security industry noticed an 8.6% rise in IT hiring activity in August 2021 over the previous month, led by The Boeing’s 25.96% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.
The aerospace, defence & security industry’s overall hiring activity increased 5.19% when compared with July 2021.
Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 22.13% share of the global aerospace, defence & security industry’s hiring activity in August 2021, up 0.48% over the last three-month average share.
According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of August 2021 were 9.61% higher when compared with the previous month.
The increase was a result of 17.84% lower job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 51% emerged as the top IT occupation in the aerospace, defence & security hiring activity in August 2021, a 16.95% growth over the previous month. Computer and Information Research Scientists came in second with a share of 20.09% in August 2021, up 56.26% over the previous month.
The other prominent IT roles include Database and Network Administrators and Architects with a 15.59% share in August 2021, a growth of 6.92% over the previous month, and Computer and Information Analysts with a 6.77% share in August 2021 and a rise of 17.29% over July 2021.
Top five aerospace, defence & security companies by recruitment activity in August 2021
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 54.43% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global aerospace, defence & security industry during August 2021 over July 2021.
The Boeing posted 2,290 IT jobs in August 2021 and registered a rise of 112.83% over the previous month, followed by Raytheon Technologies with 2,095 jobs and a 38.56% growth. Lockheed Martin with 775 IT jobs and Leidos Holdings with 763 jobs, recorded an 84.09% growth and a 13.3% drop, respectively, while L3Harris Technologies recorded a 77.44% rise with 637 job postings during August 2021.
Regional composition of IT hiring in aerospace, defence & security industry
North America emerged as the leading region in the global aerospace, defence & security IT hiring activity in August 2021 with an 81.85% share, which marked a 38.96% rise over the previous month.
Asia-Pacific stood next with 9.51%, registering a 3.58% month-on-month growth. Europe was the third leading region with an 8.04% share and a 44.82% drop over July 2021.
In the fourth place was Middle East & Africa with a share of 0.54% and a month-on-month drop of 15.79%. South & Central America stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.06%, registering an 81.48% decrease over the previous month.
