Raytheon has secured a contract modification for the US Air Force’s (USAF) family of advanced beyond line of sight terminals (FAB-T) command post terminals (CPT) production programme.
The company saw off competition from Boeing to win the $298m contract, which enables the air force to exercise low rate initial production (LRIP), full rate production and interim contractor support contract (ICS) options for the delivery of FAB-T CPT-only terminals.

The phase II production contract options for LRIP, FRP and ICS, however, could be exercised only after the completion of Milestone C.
The firm-fixed-price and cost-plus-fixed-fee award covers delivery of a total of 84 FAB-T CPT for USAF’s strategic bombers and electronic intelligence aircraft fleet, even though the original programme called for the supply of more than 100 terminals.
Work under the contract, which was awarded by the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center/HNSK, is scheduled to be carried out at the company’s facilities in Marlborough, Massachusetts and Largo, Florida, US.
Boeing spokesman Richard Esposito wrote in a statement that the company is disappointed by the decision, and "will request a formal debrief from the air force and will determine a path forward after that formal debrief is completed."

Upon entry into operational service, the net-ready, interoperable communications system is expected to provide AEHF satellite connectivity for the B-2 Spirit and B-52 Stratofortress bombers, RC-135 reconnaissance aircraft, E-4B National Airborne Command Post and E-6B aircraft.
