Kaman Corp’s Aerospace segment has been awarded a $93m commercial sale purchase order to deliver joint programmable fuses (JPF) as part of a direct commercial sale (DCS) order from a foreign government.
Kaman Aerospace Group president Greg Steiner said: "This order drives our JPF backlog, already at a record level, to over $300m.

"The JPF fuse provides excellent operational flexibility due to its ability to be programmed on wing and has demonstrated superior field reliability for more than a decade.
"Kaman is the only source of the product, and we have undertaken a significant expansion of our JPF capacity to meet the strong worldwide demand for the fuse and this order further supports that decision."
Deliveries under the order are expected to take place in late 2016 and continue through 2017.
The JPF is manufactured at Kaman’s facilities in Orlando, Florida and Middletown, Connecticut, US. It is an electro-mechanical bomb safing and arming device, and is designed to allow the settings of a weapon to be programmed on wing in flight.

By GlobalDataThe bomb is claimed to be the USAF’s current bomb fuse of choice, and is used with an array of weapons, such as general purpose bombs and guided bombs that use joint-direct attack munitions, and paveway kits on a range of US and international aircraft.
The aircraft that use the fuse include the US’ F-15 Silent Eagle, F-16 Fighting Falcon, F-22 Raptor, A-10 Thunderbolt, B-1 Lancer, B-2 Spirit, B-52 Stratofortress, the MQ-9 Reaper unmanned aerial vehicle, as well as the international fighter jets such as the Mirage 3 and JAS 39 Gripen.
Kaman has been providing the JPF to the USAF and 26 other countries worldwide since 2002.
