Thales and AMST have received a contract from the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) to jointly offer a new high G-force training service for the Royal Air Force (RAF) fast-jet pilots.

The cost-effective training solution, which will improve the safety of pilots, is being developed at RAF Cranwell.

The new training service is expected to create jobs and strengthen the UK supply chain. Thales will partner with many small and mid-sized enterprises (SMEs) during the construction phase of the service.

"This is all part of our £178bn investment in giving our service men and women the very best possible training and equipment."

UK Defence Minister Philip Dunne said: "This £44m contract which will allow pilots to develop their ability to withstand high G-force in a safe environment, will involve the innovation and expertise of Small and Medium Enterprises across the UK.

With Thales being the prime contractor in the deal, the company will be responsible for design, build and operation of the training service, which is planned to commence from 2018.

On the other hand, AMST will offer the design, technical and engineering capability for a human training centrifuge which allows pilots to build and maintain their ability to withstand high G in a safe environment.
