GE Aviation has secured a multi-million-dollar contract to upgrade the data transfer system of the F-16 multi-role fighter aircraft for the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Air Force.
Awarded by Lockheed Martin, the contract will include the redesigning of the transfer system and an aircraft retrofit and upgrade to help extend the life of this capability for the UAE Air Force’s F-16 fleet.

The UAE Air Force operates a fleet of F-16 E / F Block 60 aircraft developed and built by Lockheed Martin.
GE Aviation Avionics Systems president Alan Caslavka said: “This development work, scheduled for the next several years, advances the data transfer product line to be ready for next-generation applications.”
The F-16 data transfer system is a major part of the Block 60 avionics suite that delivers mission data to the aircraft, enabling the pilot to carry out the missions efficiently.
The Block 60 brings together a range of technologically advanced systems in order to provide the aircraft with capabilities necessary to address the modern defence requirements.

Equipped with one General Electric F110-GE-132 turbofan, the Fighting Falcon can house both active and passive missile warning systems.
The F-16 Block 60 aircraft can support AIM-132 advanced short-range air-to-air missile (ASRAAM), AGM-154 joint standoff weapon (JSOW), and AGM-84E standoff land attack missile (SLAM).
