MacAulay-Brown (MacB) and Engility have partnered on a contract to support the US Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) Munitions Directorate.

Under the indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) contract, the companies will provide research and development (R&D) support for the kinetic kill hardware-in-the-loop (KHILS) simulation technology for advanced research (KSTAR) programme.

The programme seeks to help the government assess concepts for high-end, next-generation weapon systems.

Through the partnership, engineering experts from MacB’s Mission Systems Group (MSG) and Engility will co-develop multi-spectral and other advanced modelling capabilities, radar signal processing, integrated projector and scene generation technologies, as well as R&D of virtual simulation environments.

A team of senior engineers from MacB will take responsibility to provide the necessary requirements and design support for concept seeker hardware and be instrumental in performing seeker phenomenology research and evaluation.

MacB’s MSG senior vice-president and general manager Fred Norman said: “We’ve been supporting this customer and their mission for more than 18 years, so this re-compete award represents the government and our team’s continued commitment and advanced work on Hardware-in-the-Loop (HWIL) test technology, and our critical role in the research, development and transition of airforce munitions through the use of integrated guidance simulation.”

Work under the contract will be carried out at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida, US, over a period of five years.

The AFRL Munitions Directorate is involved in the development of conventional munitions technologies, upon which future air-delivered munitions can be developed to neutralise potential threats to the US.
