Engility has secured a contract to continue providing advanced research and development (R&D) services to the US Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL).
Under the $49m contract, the company will support the AFRL Laboratory in its Kinetic Kill Hardware-in-the-Loop (KHILS) Simulation Technology for Advanced Research (KSTAR) programme.

Through KSTAR, Engility is to help the government assess high-end next-generation weapon system concepts for the next five years.

The single-award contract has a five-year period of performance with cost-plus-fixed-fee task orders and represents recompete work.

The Engility team and AFRL government partners are involved in the development of technology for test and evaluation of sensor systems and associated hardware, including electro-optical, infrared, laser, and radar guidance technologies.
This expertise is backed by high-performance computing capabilities at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida, US, along with the potential to support AFRL abilities such as directed energy, air vehicles, and other materials.
In June, Engility was selected to conduct risk assessments on the US Air Force’s space and launch vehicles, while it is also tasked to conduct independent readiness reviews to help with technical analysis.
