The Indonesian Air Force will receive additional funding of $137m for the maintenance of its ageing fighter aircraft, air transport planes and air weapon systems.

Indonesian Air Force commander Air Marshall Imam Syafaat said the additional fund will be disbursed next year, increasing its existing maintenance allocation of about $350m, according to Antara news agency.

“Maintenance on transport planes, like C130 Hercules, is very essential here since many natural disasters occur across the country. The plane is essential to transport aids,” Syafaat said.

The Air Force will also procure four additional, four-engine C130 Hercules turboprop military transport aircraft, to enhance its transport plane service.

The Air Force’s existing fleet of Sukhoi Su-35 Mki jets will be joined by an additional three aircraft in October 2010.
