The Royal Air Force (RAF) has used two Eurofighter Typhoons jets in an exercise to test the UK’s preparedness to respond to a terrorist hijack plot.

During the exercise, the fighter jets took off from RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire to scramble an airborne jet, according to the BBC.

During such incidents, the pilot of an RAF fighter jet would be expected to shoot down a passenger plane if terrorists planned to crash it.

The pilot can also force the hijacked plane to land by destroying its engine.
