Boeing has completed production of the first Royal Australian Air Force’s (RAAF) F/A-18F Super Hornet with an electronic attack aircraft capability.

The company is currently pre-wiring the RAAF’s second lot of 12 Super Hornets for electronic attack capability conversion during production at its facility in St Louis, US.

Australia will acquire 24 of the advanced block II versions of the Super Hornet, equipped with the Raytheon-built APG-79 active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar.

A multirole aircraft, the Super Hornet can perform missions including air superiority, day / night strike with precision-guided weapons, fighter escort, close air support and suppression of enemy air defences.

Boeing will deliver the 24th Super Hornet to the RAAF in 2011.
