Cobham has been awarded a contract to provide air support for operational readiness training for the Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF).

Awarded by BAE Systems, the 30-month contract forms part of the Saudi British Defence Cooperation Programme, a government-to-government agreement signed between the two countries in 2007, to help modernise the armed forces of Saudi Arabia.

The contract builds on the company’s experience in supporting operational readiness training for armed forces in the UK, and for Nato.

Cobham Aviation Services strategic business unit vice-president Peter Nottage said the company is looking forward to developing a highly effective partnership with RSAF, and will provide the same high level of operational readiness training it delivers to the armed forces of the UK and Nato.

"The service depends on extensive technology and know-how that Cobham has developed since the mid-1980s, which we continue to evolve to meet the needs of modern armed forces," Nottage said.

"The contract builds on the company’s experience in supporting operational readiness training for armed forces in the UK, and Nato."

Cobham’s specialist technology and know-how is used to provide training to service personnel operating platforms, including the Eurofighter Typhoon multirole fighter, Panavia Tornado variable-sweep wing combat aircraft and the Type 45 Destroyer.

Apart from the UK, Cobham Aviation Services, with a combined fleet of approximately 130 fixed and rotary wing aircraft, also supports training in a number of the Ministry of Defence’s (MOD) overseas detachments in regions, such as North America and the Middle East.

The contract, whose monetary value remains undisclosed, is scheduled to run from 2014 to 2016.
