Swiss defence authorities have launched search operations for the Swiss Air Force's F/A-18C fighter jet, which went missing near Susten in central Switzerland.
The single-seat aircraft was carrying out a training exercise along with another jet when it disappeared on Monday.
The missing pilot reportedly responded to a radio call after the aircraft took off from the Meiringen military airport.
Search operations are being carried out between Meiringen, canton Bern, and Andermatt, canton Uri, swissinfo.ch reported citing the Federal Department of Defence.
Two ground-based search teams are also searching for the missing pilot and the aircraft, while an investigation has been launched into the suspected crash, Reuters reported.
The Swiss air force has a history of fighter jet accidents and it has lost one of its F/A 18 jets in the last three years.
Earlier in June this year, a F5 fighter jet from Patrouille Suisse crashed in the Netherlands after two jets touched during a training flight. However, the pilot safely ejected from the aircraft.
During the past 20 years, 21 people were killed in 12 accidents involving jets or helicopters from the Swiss air force.
Currently, the air force operates a fleet of 35 F/A-18s, which include 25 single-seater and five double-seater, and 36 F-5-Tiger jets.
