The Israeli Ministry of Defence (IMoD) has procured tactical radars from RADA Electronic Industries to secure Israel’s southern border against short-range threats, including rocket and mortar fires and aerial threats.

RADA’s MHR-based tactical radars will be able to detect short-range threats such as UAVs and fires, and also offer timely lifesaving alerts.

RADA CEO Zvi Alon said: "We are very proud of the selection of our systems for the important task of protecting the lives of the residents near the southern border.

"The expansion of the MHR family enables us to offer our customers a variety of solutions for a myriad of missions and applications."

"This programme is the latest of strategic programmes in which our radars are taking part, and were announced over the past few months, strengthening the global recognition of our unique radar offering."

IMoD selected RADA’s technology after a competitive selection process, the company stated.

Meanwhile, RADA is set to unveil three new derivatives of the MHR radar for different ranges and diverse air and surface surveillance missions at the DSEI 2015 show.

Alon added: "The expansion of the MHR family enables us to offer our customers a variety of solutions for a myriad of missions and applications.

"We are now offering our radars to the maritime market, where the systems’ minimal size, weight and power (SWaP) is an essential advantage."

The new pMHR radar is claimed to be a suitable solution for force protection missions on the move as it enables portability of the system on the battlefield.

The eMHR and ieMHR radars will offer longer detection ranges for very short-range air defence (VSHORAD), sea and air surveillance missions.

Suitable for installation on ground platforms and small / medium-sized vessels, these radars are stationary systems for the protection of potentially-threatened areas.

Earlier this year, the company secured a $1.5m contract from an Israeli Defence contractor to upgrade a previously designed UAV avionics unit and to deliver additional production units.
