An Iraqi Military plane has accidently dropped a bomb over Baghdad, killing at least eight people, including three children and two women.
According to the Iraqi Air Force, the bomb fell from a Russian-made Sukhoi jet due to a technical failure while it was returning from a bombing raid against Islamic State (IS) militants.
At least 25 people were injured in the accident and several buildings were destroyed in the area, The Guardian reported.
Iraq Security spokesman brigadier general Saad Maan was quoted by the Associated Press as saying: "One of the bombs became stuck because of a technical problem, and during its (the aircraft’s) return to base it fell on… houses in Baghdad Jadida."
Officials said the pilot attempted six times to dislodge the bomb after it got stuck during the strikes.
Baghdad province governor Ali al-Tamimi has instructed the move the Rasheed air base, the base of Sukhoi jet, to a non-residential area.
With support of the US, the Iraqi Military Forces have been fighting IS militants in the country.
Meanwhile, the US President Barack Obama has recently discussed the strategy to degrade and ultimately destroy the IS with civilian and military officials of the country.
Obama noted that there is no substitute to working through indigenous forces in the region to destroy the terrorist group.
He said: "ISIL is opportunistic, and it is nimble.
"In many places in Syria and Iraq, including urban areas, it’s dug in among innocent civilian populations. It will take time to root them out."
