India has reportedly signed various agreements for the procurement of military equipment from Russia.
Under a Inter Governmental Agreement, India will acquire five S-400 'Triumf' long-range air defence missile systems for its armed forces.
The Almaz Central Design Bureau-built anti-aircraft weapon system has the ability to engage all types of incoming targets such as aircraft, missiles and drones within the range of up to 400km.
Russian President Vladimir Putin was quoted by Sputnik as saying: “We do not only sell modern weapons to India, but we are also engaged in joint projects.
"S-400 Triumf is a multibillion deal, billions of dollars.
"You know that we will be modernising Brahmos missile system so that it could be a land, air and sea-based system.
“We have agreed that we will increase its range capability.
"We also will be jointly working on the T-50 fifth-generation fighter jet,"
The countries have also agreed to co-produce Kamov attack helicopters.
Under the terms of the agreement, India and Russia will produce 200 Kamov Ka-226T helicopters in total.
The new Kamov Ka-226T helicopters are anticipated to replace the ageing fleet of Cheetah and Chetak choppers in India.
As part of another separate deal, Russia will deliver four Admiral Grigorovich-class guided-missile stealth frigates, The Financial Express reported.
These agreements were signed during the India-Russia Summit in Goa.
