Rockwell Collins has received a contract from Embraer to supply its Talon programmable digital communication system for the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) I-X Project.
Under the contract, the company will supply an undisclosed number of Talon radios for six Embraer Legacy 500 aircraft, which are scheduled to be used for flight inspection and airport calibration missions under the I-X Project.
The Legacy 500 aircraft will also feature Rockwell Collins’ Pro Line Fusion integrated avionics system, which entered the business jet segment in 2012.
Rockwell Collins Americas vice-president and managing director Alan Prowse said: "This is a key programme win for us, as it represents our first Talon radio sale to Embraer for a Brazilian Air Force programme, and is a complement to our existing Talon radio position on Brazilian Army rotary aircraft.
"With this contract, our investment and relationships in Brazil continue to grow stronger, as they have for the past 40 years."
Designed to provide the best value in features, technology and growth capabilities, the Talon radio series of receiver-transmitters features a digital radio architecture that enables easy reprogramming with different waveforms and operating modes through the use of digital signal processing technology.
Apart from I-X Project, the company is also supporting FAB’s KC-390 programme through the supply of flight test software and transitioning of product manufacturing for the aircraft to Brazil.
Rockwell Collins has supplied third Pro Line Fusion flight test software for the KC-390 to Embraer in support of aircraft’s first test flight in February this year.
In addition, the company started transitioning display and control panel build capability for the KC-390 into Brazil with its partner, Jabil do Brasil, which is currently developing test solutions in its US facilities that will be transferred to Brazil in 2016 to support the production phase of the programme.
