Bangladesh has included a Yak-130 combat trainer aircraft and AW 139 helicopters in its air force fleet.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inducted the aircraft at Air Base Bangabandhu in Dhaka Cantonment.

Hasina promised to modernise the Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) by 2021 in spite of resource constraints.

"The present government had never been miser when it came to providing assistance in the past, will never do in the future too although we have resource constraints."

"The present government had never been miser when it came to providing assistance in the past, will never do in the future too although we have resource constraints." the Daily Star quoted the prime minister as saying.

Russia-made Yakovlev Yak-130 is a swept mid-wing monoplane with aerodynamic configuration.

Its two-seat tandem cockpit is equipped with three multifunctional coloured 6×8 inches LCD displays without electromechanical instruments, as well as collimator aviation indicator and helmet-mounted target designation system in forward cabin.

The aircraft operates on two turbofan engines with 2500kg thrust each. The sub-sonic trainer has characteristics of Russian 4th and 5th generation fighters.

Bangladesh signed a deal with Russian state arms export agency Rosoboronexport in 2013 to buy 24 Yak-130 trainers.

Manufactured by Agusta Westland, the AW-139 is an intermediate twin-engine helicopter.

The BAF will use them for maritime search and rescue (SAR) operations and other utility missions.

The aircraft runs on two Pratt &Whitney Canada PT6C-67C engines and features a Honeywell Primus Epic fully integrated avionics system and 4-axis digital AFCS.
