The Royal Air Force (RAF) Lossiemouth-based Typhoon fighter aircraft have conducted a training sortie with a US B1B Lancer bomber over the North Sea.
A long-range nonstop training sortie was conducted by the US B1B Lancer bomber from the US to and from mainland Europe.

During the flight, the US bomber over the North Sea was escorted by Typhoons from 1(F) Squadron.
It performed air-to-air refuelling prior to its return to the US across the Atlantic.
US Marine Corps Exchange Officer with 1(F) Squadron Typhoon pilot Major NEWTL Campbell said: “It was fantastic for 1(F) Squadron to escort the B-1B Lancer through UK airspace after its mission in the Baltic region.”
The training sortie was part of regular training activities carried out by the RAF with the US Air Force (USAF) and Nato allies.

By GlobalDataPart of the 28th Bomb Wing, based at Ellsworth Air Force Base (AFB) in South Dakota, the B-1B Lancer was refuelled by a KC-135 Stratotanker from the 100th Air Refuelling Wing, based at RAF Mildenhall, Suffolk.
Additionally, the US sortie included integration and interoperability training with Polish F-16s and MiG-29s.
It joined the B1B to overfly Warsaw, Poland, which was followed by escorting the bomber in an overflight of Latvia and Lithuania.
Once completed, the Polish fighters were handed over to Danish F-16s to fly over Bornholm Island, Denmark, before the RAF Typhoons picked up the US Bomber.
Joint Force Air Component Headquarters director Group Captain Roger Elliott said: “These flying missions illustrate what the RAF is all about, opportunities for the RAF to work together with our Nato allies developing our understanding of each other’s operating procedures and capabilities.
“By operating alongside the USAF, we demonstrate our capability, flexibility, and our commitment to Nato.”
