The US Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) has awarded an indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) cost plus-fixed fee contract to MacAulay-Brown (MacB) to conduct electro-optical (EO) threat warning research in support of its Omni Sentinel programme.
Under the $24m contract, MacB will carry out EO research in missile warning (MW), hostile fire indication (HFI), sense and avoid (SAA), and space situational awareness (SSA) over the next six years.

Company personnel will specifically analyse existing and future implementations of infrared (IR), visible and ultra-violet MW and HFI sensors, to help optimise the efficiency of ongoing research programmes.
Additional responsibilities include providing support for the production of models and simulations of the MW sensors implementations using high-level programming languages.
Tim Lawrence, MacB Advanced Technology Group senior vice president, said the company will support the Omni Sentinel programme, which provides cost-effective missile and hostile fire warning capabilities to continue dominance throughout entire electromagnetic spectrum.

By GlobalDataData obtained from the research will be employed by the AFRL to augment both effectiveness of the existing systems and design advanced MW and HFI sensors.
Work is scheduled to be conducted at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio, US, with an estimated completion date of 6th March 2018.
The Omni Sentinel programme supports the Threat Warning Laboratory’s (TWL) research, development and testing processes, which aim to ensure air/space asset and troop protection in hostile environments, by meeting evolving requirements in EO situational awareness and intelligence domain.
