The South African Air Force (SAAF) has received the Cobra helmet-mounted display (HMD) system for use on its 26 Gripen fighter jets.

The HMD binocular systems display both air-to-air and air-to-ground weapons symbology and basic flight data, and are designed to maximise effectiveness while conducting tactical missions.

The system can operate over the full combat flight envelope in all attitudes and weather conditions and allows the fighters to use the full potential of IR-missiles IRIS-T, as well as the future A-Darter, in close-in air combat.

The system is also being integrated onto Swedish Air Force Gripen fighters.
