Northrop Grumman has been contracted to provide Litening advanced targeting pods for the Royal Danish Air Force's (RDAF) F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft fleet.
Using Litening advanced targeting system, pilots will be able to accurately detect, identify and track targets at extremely long ranges under different battlefield conditions.

The Litening pod has been designed to provide aircrews superior situational awareness and targeting capabilities for strike and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) missions.
Northrop Grumman programmes vice-president Dr Robert Fleming said: “As a key member of Nato, Denmark supports a wide range of missions.
“Litening gives the RDAF powerful capabilities to carry out these missions, whether they call for targeting or ISR.”
The pod is equipped with digital, high-definition video, 1K forward-looking infrared and charge-coupled device sensors and laser imaging sensors.

Northrop stated that Litening can reduce pilot workload and provides multiple fields of view for a complete view of the situation.
According to the company, Denmark was the first international partner to take delivery of the fourth-generation of the Litening pod, which is authorised for export to Nato countries.
The RDAF plans to expand the use of Litening to additional aircraft in its fleet.
The pod has been integrated on the A-10, AV-8B, B-52, C-130, F-15, F-16 and F/A-18 and has achieved more than two million operating hours so far.
