Kratos Defense & Security Solutions has been selected to supply KC-46 Pegasus tanker high-fidelity maintenance training systems to Boeing.

The company will develop and deliver more than $20m worth of high-fidelity virtual simulation, Interactive Multimedia Instruction (IMI) and full-scale simulators for the tanker aircraft.

These maintenance training systems will be used together and networked to provide a coordinated and realistic training experience, Kratos said in a statement.

Kratos Training Solutions senior vice-president Jose Diaz said: "Kratos is a leading provider of maintenance training systems for air, land and sea defence platforms, specialising in developing comprehensive training solutions sets that maximise training proficiency.

"Kratos has a long and proven track record of providing virtual and high-fidelity simulators to the US military and allied nations."

The company will deliver two suites of training devices to support maintenance and repair training of a range of aircraft sub-systems.

The US Air Force's (USAF) newest air refuelling tanker aircraft KC-46 is being built by Boeing under a contract awarded in 2011.

Boeing will build 179 KC-46 tankers for the USAF by 2027.

"These maintenance training systems will be used together and networked to provide a coordinated and realistic training experience."

Powered by two Pratt & Whitney PW 4062 engines, the aircraft features advanced electronic displays and displays with 3-D refuelling picture.

Designed to carry passengers, cargo and patients, the KC-46 is a widebody, multirole tanker that can refuel all US, allied and coalition military aircraft compatible with international aerial refuelling procedures.

The aircraft is capable of detecting and defeating threats using multiple layers of protection, which will enable it to operate safely in medium-threat environments.
