ITT Exelis has been awarded a contract to continue the Advanced Capability Pod (ACaP) deliveries for the US Air Force (USAF) and Navy’s tactical aircraft.
Under the $68m multiyear indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) contract, the company will supply unspecified units of AcaP systems for installation onboard the USAF and the navy’s F-15, F-16 and F/A-18 fighter aircraft.

Exelis electronic attack and release systems business defense systems director Pete Martin said the contract further reaffirms the company’s role as a global leader in electronic warfare.
"The ACaP jamming pod is the most effective radar jammer in its class, offering pilots unparalleled electronic protection and the ability to counter advanced anti-access/area denial strategies in hostile, high-threat environments,” Martin said.
Originally designed by ELTA Systems, which partnered ITT Exelis for production, technical support and logistics in the US, ACaP is a mature electronic counter-measure (ECM) system designed to provide the aircraft with a lightweight, cost-effective and fully integrated electronic radio frequency countermeasures capability.
Available in two variants, including oval and square, the system can operate autonomously to provide simultaneous receive and jam coverage against multiple concurrent threats, while facilitating man-in-the-loop intervention when manual control is needed.

By GlobalDataA totally integrated radio frequency countermeasures system comprising more than 30 shop replaceable unit, the 210lb system is primarily used on varied tactical aircraft to support the USAF Aggressor and navy adversary training programmes.
The system has already flown in various training exercises, such as Red Flags and Northern Edge.
More than 100 jamming pods are currently operational worldwide on more than ten different aircraft types in at least six different countries.
Deliveries by Exelis Electronic Systems division are anticipated to commence in July 2014.
