Discovery Air Defence Services (DA Defence) has deployed McDonnell Douglas A-4 Skyhawks to offer training support to the German Air Force Eurofighters on deployment in Italy.

The company is responsible to deliver Red Air adversary training support to the Luftwaffe’s tactical Air Force wing 73 ‘Steinhoff’ and the aircraft deployed to Decimomannu Air Base in Sardinia, Italy.

DA Defence COO Daniel Gibeau said: "This first deployment to Italy demonstrates the confidence and trust by the Luftwaffe for DA Defence to deliver air combat training of the highest order.

"Our modernised McDonnell Douglas A-4 Skyhawks are flying dissimilar air combat training missions against the best of the Luftwaffe."

"Doray Minerals holds 100% ownership of the project, following its takeover of Mutiny Gold in February 2015."

The training is expected to be completed by the end of the month.

Gibeau added: "Our capabilities, people and experience continue to contribute to the finest combat pilots for Germany and directly to readiness for Nato missions."

In January 2014, DA Defence secured a contract to provide airborne training services to the German Armed Forces.

Under this five-year contract, the firm is responsible to provide fast jet airborne training services to the German Armed Forces using a fleet of seven Douglas A-4 aircraft.

Along with Italy, the services are also provided from other locations in Europe, including Germany, France, the Netherlands and Belgium.

As part of this contract, the company started deploying its A-4N fleet to Wittmund, Germany in October last year.

The training process started in January this year.
