CPI Aerostructures has received a contract from Sikorsky to manufacture weapon pylons for CH-148 Cyclone.

Sikorsky is manufacturing the twin-engine, multi-role shipboard helicopter for the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF).

Designed for shipboard operations, the CH-148 will be operated by the RCAF and it will conduct anti-submarine warfare, surveillance, and search and rescue missions from Royal Canadian Navy warships.

"This award recognises our long-standing and excellent past performance with Sikorsky that spans over a decade across multiple aircraft, including the UH-60, S-92, and now the CH-148."

The contract requires CPI to produce weapon pylons for 28 Cyclone aircraft.

Deliveries under the contract will take place until 2018.

The Cyclone has a day-and-night flight capability, and can fly in most weather conditions in temperatures ranging from -51°C to +49°C, RCAF said in a statement.

With a maximum cruise speed of 250kmph, the CH-148 is approximately 10% faster than a Sea King.

The Cyclone is compatible with the latest high-tech naval frigates and can fly 450km without refuelling.

Based in the US, CPI Aero manufactures structural assemblies for fixed wing aircraft, helicopters and airborne intelligence surveillance and reconnaissance pod systems in both the commercial aerospace and national security markets.
