CAE has upgraded one of the Royal Air Force’s (RAF) CH-47 Chinook dynamic mission simulators under the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) Flight Simulation and Synthetic Trainers (FsAST) project team contracting vehicle.
The upgraded simulator features forward-looking infrared (FLIR), a new moving map, digitised instruments, and added on-board ground mission planning systems to enable extensive tactical training for RAF Chinook aircrews.
The simulator upgrade was performed in parallel with the UK MoD’s contract for upgrading the CH-47 Chinook fleet under the JULIUS cockpit integration programme.
The company completed the upgrades ahead of the aircraft modernisation to facilitate testing and evaluation of the new aircraft systems in the simulator.
The simulator will be used for training at CAE’s new Medium Support Helicopter Aircrew Training Facility (MSHATF) that was built under a private finance initiative with the UK MoD.
