Komsomolsk-on-Amur Aircraft Production Association (KnAAPO) has signed an agreement with Sberbank to fund production of 48 multitarget jet fighter Su-35S for the Russian Air Force.

KnAAPO is currently performing the production of the jet fighter at Komsomolsk-on-Amur and will deliver the first jet to the Defence Ministry by the end of 2010.

The Russian Defence Ministry awarded a contract to Sukhoi in August during the MAKS-2009 aerospace show to manufacture 48 Su-35S fighter jets, according to vostokmedia.com.

The fourth-generation Su-35 is a super-manoeuvrable multirole fighter, which includes long, middle and short-range weapons.

The Su-35 is equipped with a new avionics suite based on a digital information control system and integrating onboard instrumentation.

The aircraft also includes a new radar with a phased antenna array, capable of detecting a larger number of air targets.
