Russia has signed a contract to deliver two Mi-17 helicopters to the Argentine Air Force.

The air force will use the multi-purpose helicopters for logistic and rescue operations in Antarctic bases, according to RIA Novosti.

The Mi-17 helicopters have capacity to transport 26 passengers and 5t of external load.

The Mi-17 is equipped with floaters for emergency water-landing, cargo cranes for upload and download in the deck of vessels, and supplementary tanks for long-range operations.

Argentina will take delivery of the two helicopters in September 2011.
