Terma has received a contract from Saab to upgrade the modular reconnaissance pod system (MRPS) for the Swedish Air Force’s Gripen fighter aircraft.

Under the contract, Terma will deliver software and components for the reconnaissance pod system upgrade programme.

The upgrade will secure full day and night operability of the MRPS, and enhance its flexibility and capability.

The programme will include design, production and installation of new software functionality for management of the sensors.

It will also include structural modification of the pod layout and upgrade functionality of the power distribution unit (PDU).

Terma will deliver the first upgraded pods in late 2011, followed by a test phase and additional delivery of the remaining pods as part of the Skr55m ($7.4m) contract.
