The Israeli Air Force (IAF) will decide whether or not to buy joint strike fighters (JSF) by the end of July 2010 after a series of high-level meetings.

The IAF said the acquisition of the F-35s would significantly boost Israel’s deterrent in the region.

Recent talks between Israeli and US officials on the JSF deal have not reached any agreement due to Israel’s demand for a high level of offset on the aircraft, according to the Jerusalem Post.

Israel is also considering the $94m price tag of each JSF fighter, which, with modifications, will be between $140m and $150m.

The first meeting is expected to be held soon, followed by a second meeting in late June, with the final meeting to be led by Defence Minister Ehud Barak in July 2010.
