Lockheed Martin has signed a contract with the Finnish Air Force (FAF) to supply airborne surveillance systems and associated ground systems.

Under the $100m contract, Lockheed will modify an EADS CASA C-295 turboprop aircraft to accommodate an advanced surveillance system.

The system will have open and modular architecture to allow future system upgrades and configuration for evolving mission needs.

It will create an up-to-date system through the lifecycle that will use innovative technology for road mapping.

Lockheed will also provide ground stations and communications terminals to support the airborne system.

The firm will work with Patria, Rockwell Collins, DRS Technologies, Applied Signal Technology, AdamWorks, and L3 Communications during the four-year programme.
