Lockheed Martin will continue to develop system requirements for the USAF’s F-15C infrared search and track (IRST) sensor system programme under a deal with Boeing.

It will provide the F-15C jet fighters with on-board situational awareness to detect, identify and engage enemy targets at extended ranges.

Featuring high-angle accuracy, the IRST system can track closely spaced targets at maximum range, and can be used alone or combined with other sensor data.

It will increase the lethality and survivability of the USAF’s F-15C fleet by enabling passive detection and tracking of airborne targets.

The system was first fitted on a F-14D AN/AAS-42 aircraft and has accumulated over 200,000 flight hours.
