Faun Trackway is developing a new modified version of the aircraft landing mat (ALM) for the US Air Force.
The ALM, an expedient runway designed in kit form, will help the air force construct temporary airfields quickly and easily.
It can be used to build temporary airfields in under 24 hours during military operations and to allow delivery of emergency aid in support of a humanitarian disaster.
Faun has sent samples of the ALM to the Engineer Research and Development Center in Vicksburg, Michigan, for testing.
After the test, the firm will work to create the new version of the ALM suitable for the USAF’s latest aircraft.
Originally developed for the UK Royal Air Force, the ALM was used as runways, taxiways and hard standings by a wide variety of its aircraft.
