The Colombian Ministry of Defence and Sikorsky have signed an agreement to establish a Black Hawk helicopter training facility.
The training facility at Melgar will include a full-motion S-70TM Black Hawk helicopter simulator to support pilot training for the Colombian armed services and Sikorsky military customers in Latin America.
The Colombian armed services include the National Army of Colombia, the Colombian National Armada, the Colombian Naval Infantry and the Colombian Air Force.
The facility will include a launch platform for development, maintenance, repair and overhaul services, spares, and a training centre for both fixed and rotary wing aircraft.
Sikorsky Aerospace Services president David Adler said the new training facility would further improve the operational readiness of the Colombian armed services and regional armed forces.
The Black Hawk is a four-bladed, twin-engined, medium-lift utility helicopter used by the Colombian Air Force to transport troops and supplies to difficult terrains and for counter-insurgency (COIN) operations.
