Australia’s Defence Materiel Organisation has awarded an in-service support contract, worth $600m, to Boeing for Project Wedgetail 737 airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) programme.
Under the five-year contract, Boeing will provide acquisition, programme management, integration and engineering services to the Royal Australian Air Force’s (RAAF) fleet of six Wedgetail AEW&C aircraft and ground segments.

Northrop Grumman, the subcontractor of the AEW&C programme, will support the aircraft’s multirole electronically scanned array radar.
Six 737 AEW&C aircraft and associated ground support segments, including the operational flight trainer, operational mission simulator and mission support system are part of Project Wedgetail.
Equipped with an advanced multirole electronically scanned radar, the 737 AEW&C aircraft will be capable of airborne battle management.
The 737 AEW&C aircraft will also be able to track airborne and maritime targets with the help of ten state-of-the-art mission crew consoles.
