The Egyptian Air Force will receive the new rangeless P5 combat training system (P5CTS) from Cubic Defense Applications, to replace its earlier system with the high-performance P5 technology.

Under a $8.5m contract, Cubic and principal subcontractor DRS Technologies, will deliver the initial P5 components, including airborne instrumentation pods and debriefing stations, to Egypt’s Abu Suer and Fayid Air Bases.

Following its delivery in 2011, the P5CTS, using GPS-enabled airborne instrumentation pods capable of tracking and recording weapons engagements, will provide the air force’s F-16 pilots the flexibility to carry out, anywhere, anytime training capability.

The P5CTS can monitor in real time from a ground station, and is equipped with the individual combat aircrew display system, an advanced debriefing system.

Powered by a single engine, either a General Electric F110-GE-129 or a Pratt & Whitney F100-PW-229, the F-16 multirole fighter aircraft carries the Lockheed’s LANTIRN infrared navigation and targeting system.

The F-16 aircraft has nine hardpoints for weapons payloads, one at each wing tip, three under each wing and one centreline under the fuselage.
