The US Air Force has awarded a contract to Rolls-Royce North American Technologies to complete the adaptive versatile engine technology (ADVENT) demonstrator programme.
Under the contract, Rolls-Royce will integrate a variety of advanced technologies, and will carry out component testing and development of a technology demonstrator core and engine under phase II development.
The core and engine, designed to reduce average fuel consumption, will be available for future US military aerospace platforms, including medium or large unmanned air systems.
Rolls-Royce was awarded the phase II contract following successful completion of a series of tests and analyses on a technology demonstrator core and adaptive engine earlier this year.
ADVENT is part of the US Government’s versatile affordable advanced turbine engines initiative to advance turbine engine technology for military and commercial aviation.
