Raytheon’s active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar for the F-15E aircraft has received the US Air Force designation of AN/APG-82(V)1.

The AESA radar features extended range, enhanced multitarget tracking and precision-engagement capabilities. It evolves from the previous APG-79 radar for the F/A-18E/F and EA-18G aircraft and the APG-63(V)3 for the F-15C platform.

The AESA radar is being developed for F-15 Eagle platform as a part of the Boeing’s F-15E radar modernisation programme.

The APG-82 is currently in the system development and demonstration phase and Raytheon will produce developmental and flight-test radar units to support integration of the APG-82 into the F-15E weapons system.

The radar will provide next-generation air-to-air and air-to-surface capabilities to the Eagle fighter.

The US Department of Defence designates American military equipment according to the joint electronics type designation system (JETDS) that indicates the applicable platform and capabilities of a particular system.
