The US Air Force has received a proposal from Lockheed Martin to provide support solutions for the Global Positioning System (GPS) Advanced Control Segment (OCX) as a member of the Northrop team.

Lockheed will provide navigation accuracy, integrity and mission solutions for the control segment.

Besides being used for civilian services, GPS provides the air force with position, navigation and timing services.

The control segment will support the entire constellation of current and future GPS satellites including the new GPSIIIA and the existing GPS IIA, IIR, IIR-M and IIF satellites.

Northrop is the primary contractor for the second phase of the OCX, and the Lockheed proposal leads onto the final selection phase of the programme.
