The UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) has extended the Cormorant service contract with Cassidian to December 2012.
Cormorant is a comprehensive modern communications capability with deployable, modular LAN/WAN voice and data solution, and delivers a secure network which can be deployed and redeployed in theatre.
MoD Networks Project Team member Dave Openshaw said Cormorant has proved to be a really flexible asset and is providing a key capability in frontline operations in roles beyond those it was originally envisaged to perform.
“By supporting the RAF’s Ellamy campaign from Gioia del Colle, Cormorant has proven to be a strategic enabler as well as critical in-theatre support,” he added.
The Royal Air Force (RAF) has been extensively using Cormorant to support operations in Afghanistan.
