The Israeli Air Force (IAF) has embarked on new strategies for surveillance and reconnaissance flights in view of the ongoing instability in the Middle East.

As per the new plans, only experienced IAF pilots will fly reconnaissance flights conducted over Lebanon.

Performing such flights, which are usually approved by the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) chief of general staff, have to coincide with the presence of a senior officer in the IAF control room in Tel Aviv, Israel.

The Jerusalem Post quoted a senior officer as saying, “We need to consider the effect such flights can have, considering the changes in the region.

“We understand that there is a short distance between a tactical mistake and a larger crisis.”

The IAF conducts reconnaissance flights by manned aircraft such as fighter jets as well as unmanned systems.
