Lockheed Martin has signed a cooperative research and development agreement (CRADA) with the US Air Force (USAF) to assess the viability of Lockheed’s cooled tri-mode seeker for integration onto USAF weapon platforms.
Under the five-year CRADA with the US Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) Munitions Directorate, the parties will assess tri-mode weapon capabilities, emerging targeting concepts and guidance techniques.

AFRL will use the analysis to develop a baseline for integrating seekers onto future weapon platforms, which are intended to engage stationary and mobile targets.
The USAF Weapon Seeker Sciences Branch and Seeker Phenomenology Evaluation and Research (SPEAR) facility chief Buddy Goldsmith said the air force would work closely with Lockheed Martin to leverage their mature seeker technology with some novel in-house targeting concepts.
