Lockheed Martin has completed a product verification test (PVT) of the US Air Force (USAF) joint air-to-surface stand-off missile (JASSM) at White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico, US.

During the test, the JASSM achieved all mission objectives by successfully navigating through a preplanned route before engaging the intended target.

The test completion validated software upgrades for 158 lot 8 JASSM missiles and paves the way for scheduled delivery in the third quarter of 2011.

The JASSM is armed with a dual-mode penetrator and blast fragmentation warhead, and is equipped with stealth capability.

The missile employs infrared seeker and GPS receiver to dial into specific target aim points.

Lockheed is under contract to supply over 1,400 missiles under the JASSM programme, and has already delivered more than 1,080 systems.
