Lockheed Martin has demonstrated integration of the MONAX 3G wireless communications system, which may enable US Air Force personnel to access several smartphone applications on their installations.

The MONAX communications system connects users to a single base station and provides voice, video and data transmission for warfighters.

The system uses a secure link, which is protected through encryption for joint and coalition operations, and can accommodate more simultaneous users than regular mobile phone systems.

Lockheed Martin Information Systems and Global Solutions – Defence director of strategic development Sam Guthrie said commanders could stay connected at any time and anywhere on base with full voice, text, e-mail, imagery and applications with MONAX.

“We demonstrated that MONAX extends existing communications systems and allows all these features with just one device on a secure private network,” he added.
