DRS Defense has been awarded a contract by Embraer for the design, development, testing, production, and after-market support of the KC-390 cargo handling and aerial delivery system (CHS/ADS).

The KC-390 CHS/ADS will be used for transporting palletised cargo and rolling stock onboard the aircraft, and to perform various aerial delivery missions involving parachute extraction of cargo.

The CHS/ADS is one of the five major aircraft subsystems and includes an electrical pallet locking system, electronic load master control subsystem, retractable guide-rails, invertible cargo rollers, tie-down devices, and other system components.

The KC-390 is a fixed-wing transport aircraft being developed by Embraer for the Brazilian Air Force to perform troop and cargo transport, aerial delivery, in-flight refuelling and medical evacuation missions.

Work will be performed by DRS Training and Control Systems in Florida, US.
