Airbus Military has announced that it will deliver A330 Multi-Role Tanker Transport (MRTT) aircraft to the Portuguese Air Force (PoAF), the UK Royal Air Force (RAF) and the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) in 2011.
Some 25 Portuguese Air Force F-16A/B pilots have already been given air-to-air refuelling training, conducting more than 70 dry and wet contacts in different weapons configurations, as well as tests on the refuelling systems, including the Aerial Refuelling Boom System.
The A330 MRTT Future Strategic Transport Aircraft (FSTA) for the UK Royal Air Force completed a series of dry contacts for the first time, performing simulated refuelling with an F-18 fighter using the FSTA’s Fuselage Refuelling Unit.
The delivery process of the first aircraft to the Royal Australian Air Force is ongoing, with delivery expected to take place once the review of all related documentation and activities is complete.
The Fuselage Refuelling Unit is the same that is offered on the EADS North America KC-45, the configuration of the A330 MRTT that is being offered to the US Air Force.
